Hollow Form Object Concepts

Hollow Form Object Concepts

I had a lot of fun working within the limitations of this one! For this assignment I was tasked with generating six different concepts for self supporting, hollow objects that could be 3D printed using FDM. This meant that nothing could have overhangs, and I had to be very mindful of how steep the angles I created were.

This concept was the only one I made with a purpose in mind, as it was loosely inspired by a vase:

This started out as a rectangular prism believe it or not, a little worried that with the degree its been twisted that the verticals aren't steep enough:

The snowflake!:

Incredibly happy with this one, it might be my favorite:

Here I realized that I can make much shallower angles if they overlap with eacho ther for support (if that makes sense):

Here I experimented with more organic shapes, starting off with a semi-random curve and taking it from there:

Assignment The Second: A Castle

Assignment The Second: A Castle

This one turned out to be a be a lot tricker than I anticipated, mostly due to my own mistakes. As I started I conveniently forgot how to move things so that they snapped to other objects, for two hours.. This turned out to be the "Move" command. Oops. Additionally I spent a considerable amount of time trying to find somewhat suitable materials for a castle, though it turns out Rhino wasn't exactly designed for such. Who would have thought? I did my best but the materials somewhat distract from the model its self, so I have included a couple screen shots without them as well.

A Foray into 3D Modeling Using Voxels (Featuring Poker)

A Foray into 3D Modeling Using Voxels

For my very first assignment, the criteria was to create a model that represented my summer, or at least some aspect of it. However, I was limited to only using volumetric pixels, better known as "voxels."

This summer I went to Las Vegas for a few days, which is by far the most stand out thing that I did, and thus it served as inspiration for my model. Here you can see my model inspired by the only type of gambling that I can understand the entertainment of, poker.

No, I didn't do any gambling (plus silly US laws say I can't)
